Michael Strahan's New JCPenney Line Is About to Change Athleisure

Michael Strahan's basically done it all, and now the former defensive end for the New York Giants and Good Morning America co-host is back with a new athleisure clothing line, MSX, his second collection with JCPenney.

“Creating [my formal wear] Collection by Michael Strahan was an incredible experience and I realized that in addition to great tailored pieces, men also needed comfortable clothing that can be worn for any occasion,” says Strahan. “I’ve wanted to create [this line] for a while because anytime I’m not on TV wearing a suit, I’m in athleisure wear.”

He’s not alone; in the past seven years sports apparel and footwear sales have increased 42 percent to $270 billion, according to a 2015 report by Morgan Stanley. While this boom has sparked market growth of brands offering everyday-fitness apparel, Strahan says MSX is different.

“Every piece in the line has hidden details,” Strahan says. “My favorite details are the secret pockets. I’m a golfer, so I wanted the chino pants to look great but also be functional. The left back pocket stays open so you can easily slip in your golf glove between swings, and the right pocket has a zipper to store other essentials like your wallet.”

With fall approaching, he wanted to keep signature pieces from the spring collection while incorporating items for layering. “The performance long sleeve henley was a huge hit for spring, so we’re introducing a wool version in new colors, like a burnt burgundy,” he says. For fall, it's also easy to layer the henley with lightweight coats or even a vest for added warmth.

The line also features pieces with UV protection and no-chafe seams. Prices range from $26 for a muscle tee to $44 for jogging pants, and are now all available at jcpenney.com.
